日本首相安倍晉三(Shinzo Abe)17日和美國總統當選人川普(Donald Trump)會面，成為第一位親自和川普見面的外國領袖。
安倍是在川普位於紐約曼哈頓的摩天大樓，和這位即將於明年1月20日宣誓就職的地產大亨見面。雙方官員證實，這項會談已在川普大樓(Trump Tower)展開。
在防衛政策屬於鷹派的安倍，可能就亞洲安全到貿易等議題，向川普表達意見。
川普的前競選經理康威(Kellyanne Conway)表示，川普和副總統當選人彭斯(Mike Pence)都期盼和這位日本領袖會面。
不過她也告訴美國哥倫比亞廣播公司(CBS)，任何有關日本台中公司登記和美國政策與關係的更深入對話，都必須等到就職之後再談。
日本是華府最親密的盟友之一，不過川普在競選期間已經警告東京的政策制定者，他考慮撤離駐日美軍並暗示日本可能需要核武。此外，川普在選戰過程中還揚言要廢除獲得美國總統歐巴馬和安倍支持的「跨太平洋夥伴協定」(TPP)。
